1. What will an Overhaul cost me?
The cost of overhaul will vary for every customer, depending on the mileage put on the dampers, the type of driving, maintenance of the dampers, and etc. If you look over at the Overhaul Price List you will find the O/H Base Prices for specific Damper Models. Depending on whatever else needs to be changed the cost of your overhaul will go up from there.
2. What is the turnaround time for my Overhaul?
Depending on whether we have all of the parts needed to finish your overhaul in stock or if the parts need to be ordered the ETA changes.
If all the parts are in stock: 3-4 Weeks from the date of the overhaul approval.
If parts need to be ordered: 3.5-5.5 Weeks from the date of the overhaul approval.
3. What is included in the Overhaul Base Price?
The Overhaul Base Price includes Cleaning of the damper, Labor, Replacing all Seals, changing the Damper Oil, and Recharging the Gas. Overhaul Base Prices do NOT include external or internal damper parts. Needed external replacement parts will be determined at the time of inspection. Needed internal replacement parts will be determined at the time of service. Overhaul estimates are made based on the outer appearance of the dampers.
4. What is the complete Overhaul process?
When we receive your dampers they are inspected by a TEIN Technician and an estimate is made within 1-2 days of receipt. You will then be contacted by a TEIN Sales Associate by phone or email regarding the overhaul estimate and return shipping fees both of which will need to be prepaid prior to any overhaul service being done. After the prepayment is confirmed the TEIN Technician will begin the overhaul service. Upon completion of the overhaul service, you will receive a completion email notifying you and the damper will be shipped back to you.
5. What is the Revalving/Damping Force Change Service and do I need it?
When you send your dampers for a Revalving/Damping Force Change Service it includes the Base Overhaul and a Custom Valving Service specific to whatever your needs are. Usually this is a service more necessary for those whose cars are used in high performance applications; or if your car has undergone major modifications that add weight and your spring rates need to be changed to accommodate the extra weight. If your car is only used as a daily driver and has not undergone major modifications there is no need for a Revalving/Damping Force Change Service.
6. What is Dyno Chart and do I need it?
Using a shock dyno, a performance graph of your dampers (much like a dyno chart for car’s performance) is made and used to aid in fine tuning dampers for specific needs. Usually this is a service more necessary for those whose cars are used in high performance applications. If your car is only used as a daily driver a dyno chart will usually be unnecessary.
7. What Payment Methods can I use?
TEIN accepts payments by Certified Check, Money Order, PayPal, or Credit Card (Visa & MasterCard only). Personal Checks and Company Checks are not accepted.
8. Where can I find my Product’s Information?
All our current model dampers that are not full length adjustable have a sticker somewhere (position varies by car and damper model) on the damper body; on full length adjustable dampers the sticker can be found on the Lower Bracket. The sticker includes Damper Model, Part Number, Corresponding Vehicle Model & Model Year, and the Lot Number. Some older model of dampers may have the part number stamped into the body.
9. What kind of damage is reparable and what kind is irreparable?
Due to the damage that dampers incur differing person to person and damper to damper a visual inspection by a TEIN Technician is necessary to determine whether a damper is reparable or irreparable. Visual inspections are free of charge, if the damage is heavy (incurred from an accident or so) a Pre-Inspection Disassembly may be needed. The $20 Pre-Inspection Disassembly Fee and Labor is used to determine if the damper can in fact be rebuilt or not; and also to aid us in making a more accurate quote for you, the customer. After the Overhaul is finished, the $20 fee per damper will be credited towards the overall Overhaul Fee. However, if, after the damper has been broken down, you, the customer, decides to cancel the overhaul, or if the damper is determined to be unusable/irreparable by the TEIN Technician, the $20 fee per damper will not be refunded. Upon request the damper can be returned to you, the customer, however it will be returned assembled without gas or oil.
10. I did a custom suspension swap on my car from another compatible vehicle, but now I need new Knuckle Brackets to make my dampers work with the new suspension setup can I buy just the Knuckle Brackets?
Unfortunately we cannot sell a Knuckle Bracket from a different application car model. Each car’s suspension is designed for a specific purpose; as such we also design our suspension from the Uppermount to the Knuckle Bracket to match certain cars’ characteristics. Changing certain parts out like a Knuckle Bracket from another model’s suspension can cause a potential driving hazard; and due to liability reason they cannot be sold to mix and match.
11. Why am I being charged for an "Air Freight from Japan" fee? Aren't you supposed to have these overhaul parts in stock?
Due to a large number of application-specific parts that TEIN Japan manufactures, it would be very difficult for us to keep inventory for such parts as piston rods, inner tubes, etc.

In some instances, where extended time of completion is of no concern to the customer, we can include such overhaul parts in our stocking shipments from Japan, voiding any air freight fees. Estimated time to complete overhauls using this method can generally extend to 2-3 months. We offer air freight only as an option to the customer.
12. I see that you have an optional Long Stroke Piston Rod available. Can I use this to get a higher ride height?
Depending on the vehicle a Long Stroke Piston Rod may be available for use on your vehicle to obtain a higher ride height. However, due to every vehicle having different suspension geometry, contact TEIN USA Inc. to determine whether a Long Stroke Piston Rod is available for you.
13. I’ve had my suspension for X amount of years/X amount of miles. When does TEIN recommend that I have my suspension serviced?
The recommended Overhaul Service Interval for TEIN Dampers is 3 Years/ 36,000 Miles if the damper is used only for daily driving/paved road use. If your dampers see track time or off-road time then the recommended Service Interval will be shorter.
14. I have lost all the paint on my damper. Does TEIN offer a repainting service?
TEIN USA, Inc. does not offer any repainting services for Dampers.
15. Can I bring my car to TEIN for Servicing and Overhauling?
Unfortunately we do not have the facilities to disassemble your car, so we do not accept any requests from customers who wish to bring in their vehicle. Have the Dampers removed at your local garage, dealer or by yourself and then send them to us.
